Beauty Over 60: How to Wear a Fragrance

Fragrances and come and go, but the dreaded term “old lady perfume” still lingers. It can be a challenge to find the right fragrance the older we become. Sweet scents, like vanilla or fruit, may not be sophisticated enough for an older woman. Stronger colognes and perfumes can be too overpowering. So how do we buy and wear a perfume that enhances rather than distracts?

Perfume shopping tips

Buy perfumes that match your own personal style – For example, if you like to wear dark-colored clothing and heavy textures, a light citrusy scent will not fit. If you live in a hot, humid climate, it’s probably best to avoid the heavier fragrances.

Don’t buy the cheap stuff – Cheap perfumes can be harsh and smell strongly of alcohol. They become stale-smelling very quickly. Splurge a little bit on yourself and buy a nice perfume from a well-known brand.

Perfume wearing tips

Beware of personal care products – medicated creams, powders, and lotions will lend to that “old lady scent” and can clash with your perfume. Try to find fragrance-free products, or ones with a non-offensive smell.

Throw away old bottles of perfume – it’s tempting to hold onto a perfume and only use it for special occasions, especially if it was a gift, but scents go bad quickly. As recommended by this article in In Style, fragrances may last for 3-5 years, but it’s best to buy a new bottle after a year.

Don’t be discouraged from more sophisticated scents

Some people associate bolder fragrances with older women. However, as Elizabeth Musmanno, president of The Fragrance Foundation, stated in this article on The Fashion Spot“Classic fragrances with a strong point of view continue to hold strong for 2017.” The most important thing to remember is to go out and buy whatever makes you feel good.

TRIPPING OR FALLING?

Good Morning Everybody!

A few days ago I ran to catch the bus, and you guessed right I lost my footing and tripped.

People helping me up asked,” What happened.”

“I fell”  I answered “trying to catch the bus.”  At that moment my friend who was with me nudged me and whispered,

“Don’t say you fell – say you tripped. If you say you fell everybody will think ‘oh, now she starts to fall.”

Best advice I had in a long time. It’s like I said in my book, don’t tell your age because people will treat you differently once they know how old you are. So let me repeat – when you tripped you didn’t fall – you tripped!

….and even when you don’t catch the bus and have a blue eye like I do

LOVE HANDLES – DO YOU WANT TO GET RID OF THEM?

Good Morning Everyone.

What a silly question you will say. Of course I do – but how? I know from experience that with exercise it is very difficult to lose stubborn fat at a specific place. Exercise firms the body but that little pouch or extra fat somewhere does not seem to be impressed by exercise.

So while visiting my dermatologist to have a mold taken care of I found a brochure in the waiting room that talked about Body Contouring. Never having heard of it (maybe I am a little behind) I read on.

No, it is not liposuction. The brochure explained that it is done with lasers, and best of all the 25 minute procedure avoids surgery. If you are interested in learning more go to http://www.sculpsure.com.

I believe in solutions and having choices. This might be one for you to say goodbye to any little extra padding you might have here or there!

I HATE MY CLOTHES!

Hello Everyone!

Have you started to make the switch from winter to summer in your wardrobe?

I have just started….. and I have to admit that I hate everything I see. Why? Maybe because the warm sunshine, the budding trees and flowers give me the feeling of wanting a new beginning, a new start. But looking at my clothes they don’t match my longing for a new look. Instead they make me feel like I am left over….left over from when? That depends on how many seasons I have switched an item back and forth.

There is a chapter in my book  LET GO OF THE CLOTHES YOU  DON’T WEAR ANYMORE  (please believe me I do take my own advice) but this year seeing all the beautiful, bright-colored clothes, including bags and shoes which come in orange, turquoise, yellow and  any shade of pink,  I think I have to read that chapter again and let go of even  more things than I did during my last clean out.

Some of you might say that your clothes are like old friends and maybe they feel that way, but look again – even friends can out-stay their welcome. A few splashes of color will lift your spirits – replace the beige ( we all have plenty of it in our wardrobe) with a bright blue or fuchsia or any other color of the rainbow out there.

Shoes by Salvatore Ferragamo

The other day I saw this pair of shoes in the window of the  Ferragamo store on Fifth Avenue – wonderful aren’t they? But even if you don’t want to be that extravagant it certainly drives home the message that bright and cheerful is the way to go this summer!

GRAY LOCKS – THE WAY TO GO

For a very long time companies like L’Oréal and Revlon have helped women hide any sign of white hair – a reminder of aging – and who wanted anybody to know that they were getting older? “I must have  my roots done” my friends used to say while pointing to their scalp.

Well, having your roots done is the past, because the latest fashion fad is Gray Hair! And not only for older women, but for women of any age. As for me it is just happening at the right time because lately I have noticed my hair turning white and since I have never colored my hair and didn’t like the idea I was wondering what to do.

But seeing Helen Mirrem looking so beautiful I found the answer. I am now looking forward to having my hair turn white. And so can you!

PUTTING ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER

……will eventually get you there.

As an Indie author I have a rule – I must to sell a book a day – to whom? Anybody who will buy. I recently got a note from our doorman who had bought a book for his mother. He sent me the following message – Thank you so much for the book! My mother is enjoying it a lot since it fits her personality! Wish you great success!

Of course I would rather sell more books a day, and often I do, but these little encouragements are kicks carrying me forward, forward to bigger things to come.

JEANS WITH RIPS AND HOLES………..

……..belong to the Young and Restless!

Visiting my bank yesterday a lady came up to Michelle’s desk, the bank clerk who took care of me and said, “Sorry to interrupt, just wanted to wish you a Happy Easter.”

While we chit chatted I looked at the lady. She was about sixty, of medium height. She wore a bulky sweater which, even for her not slim silhouette, was much too large, and a pair of jeans with more rips and holes than was flattering for her legs.

I don’t know if she didn’t feel comfortable in her jeans, or if she had noticed me looking at her, but she suddenly said, ” I’m going out to buy some clothes now” and before I could stop myself I said laughingly, “You might need some.”

No, she wasn’t offended, she was a good sport and pointing to her jeans explained, “I just wanted to be a fashionista.”

And getting out my book Getting Over Growing Older I made another sale.

And always remember …a smile changes everything.
